Imagine you have only a few hours of electricity a day. Internet access is spotty at best, and the sound of explosions echoes through your neighborhood. That was the reality for Mayar Alromhain, a Syrian pharmacist trying to build a future amid a civil war.
Syria has endured over a decade of political turmoil and humanitarian crisis. For Mayar, these conditions were more than just news headlines; they were daily life. Yet even in the middle of the instability of it all, he remained determined to advance his career in healthcare.
“I’m a pharmacist from Syria, and from a young age, I’ve always been drawn to the healthcare field. I was fascinated by how medicine can improve lives and wanted to be part of a profession that truly makes a difference.”
Mayar’s journey started with a deep passion for science and helping others. But as the war dragged on, the ability to work, study, or plan for the future became increasingly difficult. Still, he searched for ways to grow beyond the traditional pharmacist role. He sought out ways to grow and pivot toward a more strategic future. That’s when he discovered the Board Certified Medical Affairs Specialist (BCMAS) program.
“I was searching for ways to grow beyond the traditional pharmacist role and enter the world of medical affairs. The BCMAS program stood out as a globally respected certification that could open new doors for me, particularly in international markets like the UAE. It felt like a powerful step toward expanding my knowledge and evolving professionally.”
Enrolling in the BCMAS program marked a turning point, but progress wasn’t easy. The realities of living in a conflict zone quickly set in.
“Unfortunately, while staying in Syria, I faced numerous challenges: unstable electricity, poor internet connection, and the emotional toll of living in a crisis-affected area. These obstacles made it extremely difficult to stay consistent with the program, and eventually, I had to pause my progress.”
For many, that pause might have been permanent. But not for Mayar. After being displaced from Syria and relocating to Dubai, Mayar was given the opportunity to resume his BCMAS journey.
“It was incredibly emotional and empowering. To be given a second chance reminded me that the program isn’t just about learning. It’s about resilience and hope. I felt supported and encouraged, and it reignited my motivation to continue growing and reaching for my goals.”
Even before completing the program, the knowledge he gained was already reshaping his outlook and his opportunities. BCMAS provided him with the tools and language to speak confidently in interviews and understand the strategic functions of medical affairs.
“Even though I haven’t completed the program yet, what I’ve learned so far has already made a big difference. The insights into medical affairs, clinical trial processes, and communication with healthcare professionals have broadened my understanding of the industry and prepared me for more strategic roles in the future.”
In a competitive job market like Dubai, having BCMAS on his resume has helped Mayar stand out, and it’s clear that employers take notice.
“Even being enrolled in the program has enhanced my credibility. It shows initiative, ambition, and a commitment to continuous learning.”
What makes Mayar’s story so powerful isn’t just the success he’s achieving now. It’s the persistence that it took to get here. His advice to others?
“Don’t let your current hardships stop you from investing in your future. There will be obstacles, but what matters most is your persistence. The [ACMA] team understands that life can be unpredictable, and their support makes all the difference.”
Mayar’s story is more than a personal victory. It’s a testament to the power of certification.
“I’m deeply thankful to ACMA for [...] being so supportive during difficult times. This journey is not only about academic success. OI’s about rebuilding hope and pushing forward, no matter the circumstances.”
